Aug. 09--VIRGINIA BEACH -- Virginia Beach detectives are investigating the theft of more than 200 pounds of X-rayfilm from Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Two men entered the hospital at 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 1 in an attempt to retrieve X-ray films, but were denied by security staff, according to a Virginia Beach police news release. The suspects re-entered the hospital a short time later and took more than 200 pounds of film.

Investigators later learned such theft is a growing problem nationwide as suspects extract silver from the film for sale, the release said.

The two men sought by police are driving an old yellow moving truck. Anyone with information is asked to call the Virginia Beach Crime Solvers Office at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
