INDIANAPOLIS
Indianapolis police are investigating after 50 guns were stolen during a brazen burglary at the home of an avid collector.
The thieves threw a landscaping brick through a sliding glass door to break into an east side home July 23, police said.
Once inside, they kicked in the door to a locked upstairs bedroom where Lawrence Bordenkecher, 48, kept a wide collection of guns and ammunition, taking dozens of weapons, RTV6's Derrik Thomas reported.
Police were able to piece together an incomplete list of models and serial numbers of the stolen guns, which included a M1 Garand, a 1903 Springfield, a SKS and a Russian Nagant Rifle.
As the thieves made their getaway on a red moped, one of them pointed a gun at a neighbor's 9-year-old daughter, the girl said.
"Unfortunately, kids play outside, and she happened to see somebody with a gun," said the girl's father, Reylond Lockhart.
Neighbors are anxious about where all the weapons will end up.
"I guess there is a concern when you have that many guns running around," said neighbor Ron Pinkney. "Most likely, they are going to be sold somewhere. They are going to turn up somewhere."
Police patrolled the neighborhood with greater intensity Tuesday.
