ROANOKE RAPIDS, - A Northhampton County sheriff's investigator has been charged with misdemeanor assault and battery while working security at a nightclub.

The Daily Herald of Roanoke Rapids reports that an arrest warrant accuses 41-year-old Det. Lynette Clements of pushing a woman several times in the back in April.

Clements lawyer says the woman was told to leave the club and Clements was escorting her out. Attorney Jamal Summey says no one was assaulted.

Summey says he thinks the Northhampton County Sheriff's Office in under attack. A second officer was charged with false imprisonment last month.

The sheriff says Clements is on leave while the investigation continues and refused to talk further about the incidents.
