Ga. Man Drinks Whiskey in Station, Asks to Be Jailed
July 27--A man who really wanted to get arrested did so in style early today at the Columbus Public Safety Center.
Police say a 27-year-old man walked into the police station about 4:30 a.m. acting up and drawing the attention of an officer and 911 dispatchers in the lobby. He then walked up to the information window, where an officer is on duty at all times.
"He pulled a whiskey bottle out, finished it up and said he was ready to go," Lt. William Orlich said. "I guess he was ready to go to jail."
Orlich said that's where the man went after he was charged with disorderly while intoxicated. His name wasn't immediately available.
A veteran of 34 years, Orlich said he's never heard of someone drinking alcohol in the police station's lobby and asking to be arrested.
