July 25--MANASSAS, Va. -- A Coverstone man was arrested Sunday after police say he ran from officers and assaulted a police dog.
Police tried to stop a car driven by Devon L. Moure Wilkerson in the area of Coverstone Drive and Notre Dame Street in Bull Run at 3:33 a.m., but he didn't stop, Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.
The driver led police onto Coverstone, turned on Notre Dame and then stopped on Hiram Court, got out of the car and ran, police said.
Police utilized one of their dogs to find the driver, who they said hid himself in a nearby wooded area.
The driver fought with the police dog, Perok said. The dog wasn't hurt, but police said Wilkerson was. He was treated at Prince William Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Wilkerson, 23, of 11008 Hiram Court, was charged with assault and battery on a police dog, driving under the influence, felony eluding, resisting arrest, driving on a suspended or revoked operator's license, possession of a schedule I or II narcotic [cocaine] and possession of marijuana, Perok said.
His court date and bond information was unavailable.
