UNITY, Maine -- A Bangor man was arrested for violating bail conditions and assaulting an officer while drinking on Saturday.
Jeffrey Harvey, 51, is in Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset after Waldo County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a disturbance on the Town Farm Road at 3:45 p.m. Saturday.
"Two people were in the road with beer bottles, drinking and having an argument," said Deputy Jordan Tozier.
Harvey, who is prohibited from drinking alcohol as part of his bail conditions, was charged with assault, violation of condition of release and refusing to submit to arrest or detention. Tozier suffered a minor cut on his hand, he said.
Harvey was initially taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast, but was transferred to Two Bridges Regional Jail.
According to Bangor Daily News archives, Harvey has a long history with police and alcohol.
Harvey was convicted of driving under the influence in 1987, 1992, 1996 and 2005.
In 1987, he was sentenced to 11 months in jail, one month shy of the maximum sentence, after he was convicted for drunken driving in connection with a 1986 accident in which four people from the same Lincoln family were killed.
Superior Court Justice Andrew Mead told Harvey that he was a "hazard to society" because of his repeated offenses and gave him the maximum-allowed sentence of five years in prison for drunken driving in 2005. He was convicted in June 2005 of aggravated operating under the influence of intoxicants in connection with a motorcycle-car accident on June 11, 2004, that seriously injured Barri Babcock of Carmel.
