July 09-- Two men who identified themselves as police officers robbed two men and ransacked an apartment late Sunday, Tulsa police said.

The robbers approached one man just before midnight at Bristol Park Apartments, 4414 S. Garnett Road, said they were police officers and demanded to see his identification, Cpl. Brett Bilyeu said.

Then man complied, and then the robbers led him back to his apartment and ransacked it, taking numerous possessions, Bilyeu said.

On their way out, the robbers crossed paths with a friend of their first victim in the parking lot and took his possessions before fleeing in a green van, he said.

Neither victim was hurt.

One of the robbers was white and one was black, Bilyeu said. Anyone with information about them is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS or tulsaworld.com/crimestoppers.

Bilyeau said the incident does not appear to be part of a trend of officer impersonations, but he warned residents to be mindful.

"For the people that don't know any better, it violates the trust we have with the public," he said.

He said Tulsa police officers are readily identifiable and that even undercover officers "aren't going to quickly pull out a badge and pull it back where you can't get a good look at it."

Anyone who is unsure whether they are dealing with a real officer should call 911, he said.
