July 01--Two motorists were killed and three other people were injured Saturday night in a four-vehicle wreck on a Denton street, Denton police said Sunday.
Authorities identified one victim as Rhonda Barney, 57, of Carrollton, and the other as Ryan Abraham, 21, of Ponder. Barney was pronounced dead at the scene while Abraham died at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton shortly after the wreck.
The accident occurred about 9 p.m. Saturday night in the 8100 block of West University Drive in Denton.
Barney was driving a Nissan Altima westbound on University when she drifted into the eastbound lane of traffic and hit a Lexus. The Lexus driver was injured and listed in stable condition Sunday at a local hospital.
The Altima continued and slammed almost head-on with an eastbound Toyota Tacoma truck driven by Abraham. A PT Cruiser then collided with the truck.
A 20-year-old woman who driving the Cruiser and her 29-year-old male passenger suffered serious injuries, police said.
Denton police closed the street from 9 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday as authorities investigated.
Authorities have yet to determine a specific cause.
