Calif. Officer Caught in Alleged Pot Deal Resigns

A Selma narcotics officer has resigned from the police force after being arrested in Virginia for allegedly trying to smuggle marijuana.

June 13--A Selma narcotics officer has resigned from the police force after being arrested in Virginia for allegedly trying to smuggle marijuana.

Frederick Michael Sayles, 34, of Selma, was arrested in April along with two others, including a former Selma police officer. His resignation was effective last month, City Manager D-B Heusser said.

The men were arrested in Fairfax County, Va., in the process of transporting more than 27 pounds of marijuana, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

The estimated street value of the marijuana was $635,000.
