Suspect Beats Up Wis. Loss Prevention Officer

Police arrested a Madison man Sunday after he allegedly punched a loss prevention officer who tried to keep him from shoplifting at East Towne Mall.

June 11--Police arrested a Madison man Sunday after he allegedly punched a loss prevention officer who tried to keep him from shoplifting at East Towne Mall.

The 29-year-old guard stopped the suspect, 22-year-old Derrick Paige, around noon Sunday for allegedly shoplifting from a Hollister store in the mall, according to a Madison police news release. Authorities said Paige then punched the officer multiple times in the face before being arrested.

Police said in the release Paige was already banned from both West Towne and East Towne malls. He was arrested and tentatively charged with battery, retail theft, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass.
