A Philadelphia police officer was hospitalized with a dog bite, and the dog that bit him was dead Sunday after an altercation in a home in the Wynnefield section of the city, police said.
What began as a car stop became an argument inside a home in the 2400 block of N. 56th Street at 4:30 p.m., according to police spokeswoman Tanya Little.
The officer called for assistance after the owner set his dog on the patrolman; an arriving officer shot the dog dead, but not before it buried its teeth in the first officer's wrist.
The officer was treated at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. The dog was being examined by state medical authorities for traces of disease. —Bonnie L. Cook
