SWITZERLAND COUNTY, Ind.

A drunken driver hit a police car and led troopers on a chase that reached 100 mph Tuesday night, police said.

The incident started just after 9:30 p.m. on State Road 56 near the Switzerland-Jefferson county line, where a trooper tried to pull over a truck for a minor traffic violation.

But the driver refused to stop, speeding away from police at speeds of up to 100 mph eastbound on State Road 56, police said.

As the chase reached the town of Vevay, the driver of the pickup truck rammed a trooper's car twice and then lost control, wrecking near Market and Walnut streets, police said.

The driver ran from police but was stunned by a trooper and taken into custody a short time later.

Travis Howard Seel, 40, of Vevay, was arrested on preliminary charges of driving while intoxicated, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, criminal recklessness and possession of marijuana.

Senior Trooper Patrick Williams, whose car was struck, was treated at Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison.
