Truck Strikes Fla. Cruiser in Construction Zone

June 04--A state trooper stopped in a construction zone on Interstate 4 suffered minor injuries early Monday when a tractor-trailer drove into the area, hit a truck, which then struck the law-enforcement vehicle.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Lucumy Ramirez was driving a tractor-trailer westbound on I-4 when he failed to stop or change lanes as he approached a construction area near State Road 536 in Osceola County.

A crash truck was stopped in that construction area and had amber lights activated, and an arrow board warning drivers to move over due to the construction.

Trooper Carlos Alves-Ferrer was in his marked patrol car, with emergency lights activated, stopped in front of the crash truck, FHP said.

Ramirez struck the back of the construction truck, which pushed it into the FHP car. Alves-Ferrer was treated and released from Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Ramirez was ticketed for careless driving.
