Md. Man Chokes on Bag of Crack, Police Arrest Him

Police arrested a 28-year-old Baltimore man who attempted to swallow a bag full of crack cocaine outside the Crossroads Tavern in Anne Arundel County early Friday.

May 25--Police arrested a 28-year-old Baltimore man who attempted to swallow a bag full of crack cocaine outside the Crossroads Tavern in Anne Arundel County early Friday, police said.

Kenneth Tyrone Smith, of the 3700 block of Brooklyn Ave., was charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute the drug.

Police where called around 3 a.m. to the tavern in the 7300 block of Ritchie Highway and stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Inside, the officer saw the driver who was acting suspiciously and appeared to be choking.

Police helped Smith, who had attempted to swallow a clear plastic bag that contained 15 smaller bags filled with crack cocaine.

Earlier, at 2:22 a.m., police responded to call at the tavern and arrested a 26-year-old Glen Burnie man on drug charges. Paul Ivan Garman, of the 1000 block of 1st Ave., was charged with possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and possession of generic Valium.

Police also recovered a scale, smoking device and a large amount of money. They seized a Chevrolet pick-up truck.
