May 16--A Monday car and foot chase ended with a police car rammed and an arrest of a 33-year-old Jacksonville man at an apartment complex on Firestone Road.
Jimmy Lee Johns is charged with aggravated assault against a police officer, fleeing an officer, driving with a suspended license and petty theft, according to the Sheriff's Office arrest report and court records.
Following is chronicled in the report:
Officers were responding to a robbery call at 6700 103rd St. at 4:30 p.m. when one of them saw a suspect fleeing in a Ford Crown Victoria on Blanding Boulevard. When the officer began to follow, the driver sped off running several red lights and forcing other cars off the road as police pursued with lights and sirens on.
He went down Collins and Rampart roads to Firestone Road, where he drove onto private property. One of the two officers pulled alongside and was rammed, causing the cruiser to crash into a tree. As the Ford driver bailed out, the officer gave chase, catching him a block away at the apartment complex.
No one was injured. Court records show Johns has a lengthy traffic offense history and minor criminal charges.
