Pa. Man Charged With Firing Several Shots at Officer

A man charged with firing several shots at a Wilkes-Barre Township police officer during a pursuit of a stolen vehicle discharged the weapon near a friend's house.

May 11--WILKES-BARRE TWP. -- A man charged with firing several shots at a city police officer during a pursuit of a stolen vehicle discharged the weapon near a friend's house.

City police charged William Gronosky, 29, of Nanticoke, with aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, fleeing or attempting to elude police and a firearm offense on Friday. He was arraigned by District Judge Michael Dotzel in Wilkes-Barre Township and remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $250,000 bail.

Gronosky has been jailed on a host of burglary and robbery charges.

According to the criminal complaints:

Gronosky stole a 2004 Ford Focus during a home invasion in Hanover Township on March 25. A city police officer pursued the vehicle from Kidder Street to Pittston Boulevard in Bear Creek Township, where Gronosky while on a cell phone with a woman fired three to eight shots at the officer.

Gronosky reloaded the 11-clip magazine and fired additional shots at the officer during the pursuit, the criminal complaint says.

Gronosky abandoned the vehicle near Thornhurst, Lackawanna County, where he called Ashley Evans, 22, for a ride.

Evans was charged with picking up Gronosky and dropping him off at a residence on Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. She was jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $50,000 bail on charges of hindering apprehension and obstruction of justice.

Gronosky is facing charges he robbed Anthony Passetti on Church Street, Hanover Township, and stealing Passetti's Ford Focus, and for his alleged role in an armed robbery at the Carousel Lounge adult club in Plymouth Township on March 15.

Evans is facing charges she conspired with Gronosky to rob Passetti and providing Gronosky a get-away vehicle when he fled the area in April.
