May 10--A Fuquay-Varina police officer was struck by a car outside Fuquay-Varina High School Wednesday morning walking to her post outside the school where she directs traffic.

Officer Clara Dula was transported to Western Wake Hospital for injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, though she's badly bruised, according to police spokeswoman Susan Weis.

Dula had just parked her car in the median on Bengal Drive when she walked to her post at the intersection of Bengal and Broad Street around 7 a.m. A car turning left onto Broad Street hit her. The driver, Deborah Sheerin, has been charged with a safe movement violation, said Weis.

Dula has worked as the student resource officer at Fuquay-Varina High School for the past two and a half years. She has been with the department for six years, said Weis.
