May 06--The Fresno County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting at the Parlier Police Department building on Saturday night.

An officer who was standing outside of the building's front doors reported shots being fired at him about 11 p.m. as other officers were inside processing a couple of people they had arrested, said sheriff's Lt. Robert Salazar.

No one was injured. Three to five people work the night shift at the police department, Salazar said.

Bullet holes were found in the building, which is located at 8770 S. Mendocino Ave., and in nearby vehicles.

It is not known what kind of weapon was used or if the shooting was related to the people being booked inside, Salazar said. Investigators also do not know if the shooter was targeting the police officer or the police department, he said.

Salazar did not know how often shootings have occurred at the Parlier Police Department or others in the Valley, but said it is becoming more common for people to shoot at officers.

"If you kind of read the media across the country, officers are getting shot at daily," he said. "It's not unheard of, it's just that we're not used to it in the Central Valley."

There are no suspects at this time. Anyone with information about the shooting can call (559) 488-3111 or (559) 498-STOP.
