Pa. Parole Officer Kicked During Attempted Escape
April 14--A man is due in court Tuesday on charges that he kicked a state parole officer and dove head first through a glass window while attempting to escape arrest on an active fugitive warrant.
John Michael Trivitt, 29, Greencastle, remains in Franklin County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail. He was arrested Wednesday and arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Glenn Manns. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday in Franklin County Central Court.
Trivitt had been wanted since Feb. 14 for a parole violation, according to an affidavit filed by Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg. On Monday, State Parole Agent Lonnie Killian, state troopers and members of Franklin County Adult Probation went to 9296 Gap Road in Quincy Township after it was learned that Trivitt might be there.
They arrived and spoke to a resident, Robert Morris Barling, who was allegedly "evasive" about who was in the home. When the officers searched inside, they found Trivitt in a bedroom.
When they tried to arrest him, Trivitt allegedly became combative and kicked Killian in the hand, causing minor injury. He then "dove head first through a glass window to exit the residence," the affidavit states.
A trooper outside the house ordered Trivitt to stay on the ground, but he allegedly tried to run away instead. The trooper "was able to grab (Trivitt) in a bear hug and took" him to the ground, handcuffing him.
Trivitt was charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, for kicking
Killian. He was also charged with simple assault and resisting arrest, both second-degree misdemeanors.
Barling, 46, was also arrested and placed in jail on a probation violation. Police said he was charged with one count of hindering apprehension, and that his preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
Online court records Friday did not reflect the charge against Barling.
