INDIANAPOLIS

A former sheriff's deputy was arrested Wednesday on charges of theft and ghost employment.

The Marion County Sheriff's Department said Donald Prout, 32, resigned March 28 as police were investigating the case.

Prout began working in the department in 2006 and had been assigned to the warrants division.

Police said they found that Prout was working a private security job at the same time he was supposed to be serving warrants or attending training classes. He had been placed on administrative leave before his resignation.

"I have absolutely zero tolerance for this type of behavior," Sheriff John Layton said in a news release.

Prout faces three counts of ghost employment and one count of theft, all felonies.
