April 02--STAMFORD -- Virginia police caught a New Haven man and his girlfriend running from a string of March bank robberies in Connecticut after the two stole a Virginia license plate and put it on the getaway gray Volvo police were seeking after the robberies.

Stamford police Capt. Richard Conklin said Nelson County law enforcement on Friday arrested Kevin Bolden, 46, and his girlfriend Moneek Grant, 34, both of New Haven.

Conklin said Bolden and Grant were found with cocaine and $6,000, much of which was stained with red ink from a dye pack given to Bolden during the Citizen's Bank robbery at 1 Atlantic St. in Stamford March 19.

Conklin said the two were pulled over Friday by Nelson County police, who figured out that the two stole a license plate and put it on the grey Volvo station wagon used in the robberies, Conklin said.

After being questioned, Virginia authorities told Stamford Grant confessed to helping Bolden rob the banks, Conklin said.

Grant and Bolden are being held by Virginia authorities on a fugitive from justice warrant and Conklin expects they will be extradited soon. They are also being held by Virginia police on narcotics and larceny charges related to the crack cocaine and the theft of the license plate.

Conklin said the two are suspected of robbing banks in Greenwich, New Haven and People's Bank on Stamford's Summer Street March 12.

"We are very happy. Here, you have a serial robbery team targeting Connecticut, moving around between Woodbridge, New Haven, Greenwich and our jurisdiction. We are very happy to have them in custody without getting anyone hurt and we are looking forward to extradited them to Connecticut," Conklin said.

As well as the bank robberies in Woodbridge on March 8, and in Stamford, Conklin said the two are suspects in bank robberies in Greenwich at City Bank at 453 E. Putnam Ave. on March 22, a bank robbery in New Haven March 7, and a Chase Bank robbery in Bridgeport last Tuesday.

"We would like to thank our law enforcement partners in Nelson County in helping to apprehend them," Conklin said.
