March 21--A burglary suspect tried to drive over a deputy sheriff as he sped away from a San Mateo County health club this weekend, authorities said Tuesday.
The deputy jumped out of the way around 2 p.m. near the Ladera Oaks Club on Alpine Road after trying to stop the man, according to the Sheriff's Office. The deputy wasn't hurt and the suspect got away in a tan or salmon colored early 2000s four-door Nissan Maxima or Toyota Camry.
Police said the suspect, who was wearing a white, long sleeve T-shirt and black pants, was wanted for a series of locker burglaries at the club. After he was spotted Sunday afternoon, someone called the police. When the deputy arrived he found the suspect across the street getting into his car. Even though the deputy tried to stop him, the suspect accelerated and drove at the officer, police said.
