March 18--MAYSVILLE -- An armed burglar who attempted to evade police nude and on a skateboard had his escape spoiled by an angry mob of Maysville residents and a getaway car that ran out of gas.
Morris B. Ellison IV, 22, of 353 Howard Blvd., Apt. 202, Newport, was arrested Friday night in Maysville on felony charges of breaking and entering, larceny, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a weapon of mass destruction and a misdemeanor count of injury to real property.
Ellison was placed in the Jones County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond. His first appearance in Jones County District Court is scheduled for Friday.
Maysville Police Chief Carl R. Baugus Jr. first went looking for Ellison Friday night after receiving a report of an in-progress burglary in the area of Bynum Avenue.
A 911 communicator informed Baugus that the male suspect, who previously had a sawed off shotgun, was now fleeing the scene naked, on a skateboard.
While en route, the chief located the suspect in a getaway car, with angry victims surrounding it. As Baugus activated his blue lights, the vehicle took off abruptly, then came to a complete stop moments later because it had run out of gas. Just after the chief detained the suspect, Jones County deputies arrived to assist.
After conducting an investigation, Baugus learned the suspect had gone to 303 Bynum Ave. to break into the home, but was surprised by the victim.
The suspect attempted to flee, but angry neighbors confronted him and attempted to hold him until law enforcement could arrive. Unfortunately, the suspect, who briefly got away, lost his clothes in the process, before fleeing on a skateboard.
Ellison has spent six months in state prison since 2008 for felony convictions of receiving a stolen vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon inflict serious injury, according to the N.C. Department of Correction's website.
