A Pittsburgh police bicycle patrol officer fatally shot a pit bull after the dog bit three people -- including a child -- on Friday evening, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 6 p.m. at the corner of Crucible and Woodlow streets near the Crafton Heights Town Homes, police said.

A city police officer was bitten on the leg and a security guard suffered bites to several parts of his body as they tried to capture the dog. The animal then bit a child in the chest, and the bicycle officer shot it, police said.

All three victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. The dog's owners are expected to face charges.
