EL MONTE - A jury last week ruled in favor of El Monte and its police department in a more than $7 million lawsuit filed by Jerilyn Mechelle Marin, a police officer who alleged she suffered sexual harassment and discrimination at the hands of her superiors.
After a more than two-year trial, the jury ultimately ruled against Marin March 7.
"I am very pleased with the jury's decision, particularly given the fact the City has worked so hard to ensure that our police department has a reputation for respecting all members of our force, regardless of gender or race," Police Chief Steve Schuster said in a statement this week.
Marin filed the suit in March 2009 after the department failed to take corrective measures to address her reported harrassment and discrimination claims, according to her complaint.
