WORCESTER -- Two residents each from Lowell, Chelmsford and Bedford are among the 208 State Police Academy graduates of the 80th Recruit Training Troop who will receive their certificates and appointments to the rank of Trooper at the DCU Center in Worcester on Friday.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at noon.
Joining the commanding officer of the Massachusetts State Police, Col. Marian McGovern, as guest speakers at the graduation ceremony will be Gov. Deval Patrick, Lt. Gov. Tim Murray, and Secretary of Public Safety and Security Mary Beth Heffernan.
Local cadets who will be sworn in as troopers Friday, with family members and friends looking on, include: Sabay Buth, and Matthew Daigle, of Lowell; Blake Bearden and Kyle Kilimonis, of Bedford; David Salvucci and David Stewart, of Chelmsford; Nicholas Pellegrino, of Boxboro; Ryan Dolan, of Concord; Patrick Scanlon, of Wilmington; Kathryn Tiezzi, of Dunstable; and Joseph Flynn, of Townsend.
According to the State Police Office of Media Relations, this graduation ceremony involves "the largest graduating class in the history of the Massachusetts State Police, and the first class since 2006, thanks to funding secured by Governor Patrick."
Training for the 208 cadets began in October, 2011, and lasted 21 weeks. The training curriculum included classroom study, physical training, defensive tactics, and real-world law-enforcement scenarios.
