March 07--St. Tammany investigators say a woman walked into the Slidell Police Department and told officers that her father had died some time ago and where they could find his body.

Slidell Police forwarded the information to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's office, who found the remains exactly as the woman had described: his hands had been cut off and were in a box in the freezer; his 6'2" body was stuffed in an ice chest.

Investigators say the man had been dead long enough for his body to "putrefy and assume a liquid state," which means the body has been dead for at least months, perhaps years.

St. Tammany Parish Coroner Peter Galvan will examine the remains and try to determine the cause and date of death, if possible.

Meanwhile, investigators are exploring the possibility that the man's daughter may be guilty of fraud if she continued to receive her father's Social Security checks.
