March 07--NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Police Department says an independent survey shows people in the city are more satisfied with the department.

The survey was taken by Wilson Research Strategies, which according to police is a nationally recognized company specializing in police perception surveys.

The survey asked 600 people (75 chosen randomly in each of the NOPD's eight districts) a series of questions. According to the NOPD, the department's numbers are up in almost every category with the biggest leap -- from 47% to 61% -- coming in overall public satisfaction.

"I am humbled by the number of people who are kind enough to approach me on the streets of New Orleans to tell me they appreciate the work this department is doing and say that they've noticed a difference for the better," Superintendent Ronal Serpas said in the departments news release of the survey results.
