March 07--WOODMERE, N.Y. -- Residents were evacuated from a quiet Woodmere, Long Island neighborhood Tuesday after a vast arsenal of explosives and weapons were found inside a home.

According to police, at about 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, police responded to an alarm that went off at a home on Narrow Lane. When they arrived, they found 53-year-old Marc Ringel, the son of the homeowners, without proper identification.

When police entered the home, they were overcome by a strong scent of marijuana. Officers later found marijuana plants, a semi-automatic weapon, and two military-style hand grenades. Police took Ringel into custody and evacuated several homes on the block. They brought in the bomb squad and the F.B.I. to search the home.

An intense search of the home later uncovered 100 handguns, 20 rifles, 15 pipe bombs, 15 handmade grenades and 50 lbs. of bomb-making material, police said.

PIX 11 News has learned that Ringel has a criminal history outside of the New York area.

As of Wednesday morning, residents were allowed to return to their homes.
