VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Police made an unusual request this morning when they asked the public for help identifying the victim of a homicide that took place in Arkansas more than 20 years ago.

A man was arrested and convicted for the death of "El Dorado Jane Doe," the name used to describe the 6-foot, 150-160 pound woman fatally shot at an El Dorado, Ark. motel on July 10, 1991.

Investigators found menus from Virginia Beach restaurants among the woman's possessions and Det. Cathy Phillips of the El Dorado Police Department said the victim had told people she had visited the area, likely in the mid to late 1980s.

Phillips said the victim, who worked as a prostitute, went by several names, including Sharon Wiley, Kelly Carr, Kelly Karr, Mercedes and Cheryl Ann Wick.

Police described the woman as having blonde hair, blue eyes, freckles and a birth mark under her left breast.

DNA, fingerprints and photos of the victim have not been able to confirm her true identity, Phillips said.

Investigators are asking anyone who knows the name of this woman or has information about her to contact Det. Cathy Phillips of the El Dorado Police Department Investigation Division at 870-881-4810.

Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may provide information by calling El Dorado Crime Stoppers at 1-870-863-INFO (863-4636).
