PITTSFIELD -- A spree of graffiti vandalism marred six city businesses and a Pittsfield police cruiser, according to authorities.

Police believe the vandalism, discovered early Monday morning, was made overnight.

Red spray paint was used to mark businesses on Linden and North streets, said police. In at least one instance, the tag "RGK" was left.

Besides the businesses, a police car was targeted.

"It was a marked police cruiser," said Police Capt. John Mullin. "It was parked in the Dunham Mall overnight."

The police car is shared by the three police department shift commanders, said Mullin.

The affected businesses included Berkshire Weatherproofing at 19 Linden St.; The Linden Street Laundromat at 15 Linden; Bella Hair Salon at 5 Linden; Empire Pizza at 413 North St.; Independent Mobility at 453 North; and House of India at 261 North.

Police say if people witnessed the vandalism, they may call Officer Darren Derby at (413) 448-9700, ext. 359.

Mullin said they were still in the preliminary stages of the investigation.
