Feb. 27--A Phenix City police car collided with an SUV Saturday night at Veterans Parkway and 13th Street in Columbus, flipping the SUV and sending a 15-year-old girl to the hospital, police said.

Kevin Blocker, 24, was driving a Phenix City police car east on 13th Street just before 11 p.m. with its sirens and lights activated. Charles Schulze, 37, was driving a Kia SUV south on Veterans Parkway when he heard the siren, Columbus Police Lt. Renee McAneny said.

Schulze had the green light and he slowed down to look for the oncoming vehicle when his SUV was struck in its right side by the police car, McAneny said.

The SUV flipped and a 15-year-old girl inside the vehicle was taken to The Medical Center. She was the only person taken for medical treatment, the lieutenant said.

Both vehicles had extensive damage and were towed from the scene, McAneny added.
