Feb. 16--Two people were arrested early Thursday morning after officers spotted them in a stolen car belonging to a Butler County detention deputy, authorities said.

The detention deputy's black Saturn Vue was reported stolen from his Derby home at 4:46 a.m. Wednesday, a Sedgwick County dispatcher said. A Wichita police officer heading in to start his shift spotted the stolen car at Seneca and Merton just after 6:20 a.m. today and a chase began.

Spike strips were placed in the Vue's path by other officers, the dispatcher said, and the driver stopped at Hiram and 31st Street South, where he fled on foot. A woman in the passenger's seat was taken into custody, and the driver was arrested at 3304 W. 32nd St. after he tried and failed to carjack a vehicle and escape.

A gun kept in the Vue by the detention deputy has not been accounted for yet, the dispatcher said.
