Feb. 10--NORWICH -- Local and federal agents descended on a home where packages of liquid cocaine, hidden in bottles of hand lotion, had been delivered Wednesday, police said.

Each of the eight bottles contained a small, plastic bag of liquid cocaine from Peru, the state police said.

The woman who accepted the package, Janice Gomez, 28, of Pearl Street, was charged with possession of more than one ounce of cocaine and possession with intent to sell, police said. She also was charged with risk of injury to a minor because a child was present.

She was in custody early Thursday on $150,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Norwich late in the day.

According to a press release from the state police, Homeland Security agents intercepted the package earlier in the week. The federal agency contacted the East Field Office of the state police narcotics task force about the drugs on Tuesday.

Homeland Security agents, state police narcotics detectives, U.S. postal inspectors and Norwich narcotics officers worked together on the drug bust, which involved allowing the package to be delivered. They made the arrest and searched the home, state police said.

The state Department of Children and Families was notified about the child who was home.

The East Field Office of the state police narcotics task force is made of state troopers and officers from the New London, City of Groton, Willimantic, and Putnam police departments.
