Feb. 09--A Berkeley police officer shot a man in Castro Valley on Wednesday after the suspect pinned another officer between two cars, an Alameda County Sheriff's Office spokesman said.

Officers were following the suspect's vehicle in an unmarked car because he had a warrant out for his arrest.

At least two Berkeley police officers were attempting to arrest the suspect about 5 p.m. at Center Street and Grove Way when the man pinned one of the officers between his vehicle and the unmarked car, said sheriff's Sgt. J.D. Nelson.

The officer, whose name was not released, was taken to Eden Medical Center with serious hand and leg injuries that are not considered life-threatening, Nelson said.

The officer's partner opened fire on the suspect, wounding him.

The suspect's name and details about the type of warrant he had, as well as his condition after the shooting, were not released.

Bay City News contributed to this report.
