Feb. 10--Thousands of pounds of strawberries spilled from the back of a truck to the pavement at Fifth Street and Mountain View Avenue in Oxnard late Thursday afternoon, slowing traffic.

The spill occurred about 5:40 p.m., Oxnard police said.

Police asked motorists to stay out of the area until about 7:40 p.m. while crews cleaned the fruit off the street.

Malfunctioning railroad crossing arms at Wooley Road and Mercantile Street just south of the fruit spill also interrupted traffic there.

Traffic had to be rerouted from Fifth Street, police said, while workers fixed the crossing arms.

As with the fruit spill, police asked motorists to avoid the area near the railroad crossing until about 8 p.m.
