Feb. 02--Bloomington police and firefighters discovered and dismantled a homemade explosive devise placed in the engine compartment of a woman's truck Wednesday evening.

No one was injured, and the case remains under investigation.

"There was no risk of it igniting or exploding," Bloomington police Sgt. Steve Kellams said, so an explosives disposal team from Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center was not called to assist.

A woman got into her Dodge 1500 pickup truck and started to leave a parking lot on North Rogers Street about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

She told police the engine sounded funny when she started the truck, and she noticed that her brakes weren't working.

"There are reasons she became suspicious," Kellams said.

Police found what appeared to be a homemade explosive device in the engine compartment. Kellams did not describe the device, as the case is still under investigation. "We believe it is an isolated incident," he said.

An estimated six firefighters assisted for about an hour, according to Sgt. Tania Daffron of the Bloomington Fire Department.
