A Franklin County grand jury has cleared five Columbus police officers in the fatal shooting of a homicide suspect last summer.

Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said the grand jury heard evidence on Friday in the police-involved shooting of Juvon L. Williams and declined to take any action against SWAT officers Ronald Moss and Howard Brenner and patrol officers Heidi Dripps, Santino Williams and Brett Berman.

Officers chased Williams, 18, on Aug. 12 to his Northeast Side neighborhood near the intersection of Chilmark Drive and N. Hamilton Road. Earlier that night, Williams had killed his 18-year-old high-school sweetheart, Leigh Belyn, at her nearby Medalist Drive home, police said.

A witness told police that Williams shot at officers from inside the vehicle he had been driving, prompting them to return fire.

The officers also will undergo a standard internal review to determine whether the shooting was within Police Division policy.
