LOS ANGELES COUNTY -- A man driving a reportedly stolen car led law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase Monday evening that wound through several major Southern California freeways.

California Highway Patrol officers tried to pull over a car just after 6:15 p.m. as it drove west on the 60 Freeway through Diamond Bar. The car took off and soon headed north on the 57 Freeway, then west on the 210 Freeway, then south on the 605 to the 10 Freeway west and finally the 101 west.

CHP officials said the car was reported stolen, which prompted officers to try and pull it over.

The car reached speeds of more than 100 mph on the freeway and several times grazed other vehicles as it weaved its way in and out of traffic.

After showing no signs of slowing down for more than a half-hour, a man and woman jumped out of the car on Griffith Avenue just south of E. Adams Blvd. They hopped fences and seemed to run inside a house in the area.

Police now have the area surrounded. At least one suspect, the male driver, has been taken into custody, police said.

The man, who has not yet been identified, fired shots while a police dog closed in on him, police officials said. Because of the shots fired, the man was arrested by Los Angeles police, despite the fact that the CHP started the pursuit.
