San Jose Police Save Abducted Girl, Kill Suspect

The shooting happened moments after officer spotted the armed man at a window holding the girl hostage.

A 42-year-old kidnapping suspect was shot and killed by a San Jose police SWAT team Friday during a raid in which officers rescued the 11-year-old girl he abducted, authorities said.

The alleged kidnapper, Tri Le of San Jose, was shot dead at his apartment on the 3400 block of Pistachio Drive in San Jose about 12:15 p.m., police Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.

The girl, Taylor Vo, the daughter of Le's ex-girlfriend, was found safe, police said.

The shooting happened moments after officers spotted an armed Le at a window holding Taylor hostage, police said. Officers then heard shots fired inside the apartment and forced their way inside.

They confronted Le and shot him after he opened fire at them, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Taylor was abducted at 1:18 a.m. Friday when Le stormed her family's home on the 2600 block of Taffy Court and held a gun to the girl's father's head. An unknown number of shots were fired but no one was injured, police said.

Le then pushed his way into Taylor's bedroom and forced her from the residence at gunpoint, police said.
