A Greenwood police officer was injured while struggling with an intoxicated woman during a welfare check at a local residence Monday evening, according to authorities.

Erica Wilson was arrested on suspicion of battery against an officer, resisting arrest and two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, according to Greenwood Police Chief Will Dawson.

Officers with the Greenwood Police Department were called to Wilson’s Ulmer Street residence to perform a welfare check on the two minors who live at the residence. The home, Dawson said, is occupied by Wilson, her husband, Darl Eugene Wilson, who allegedly rammed a dump truck into a gate at the Fort Smith Regional Airport, and two minor children.

The Department of Health and Human Services also traveled to the residence to remove the children from the home. While authorities were at the residence, Erica Wilson came home intoxicated, according to Dawson.

Erica Wilson began to wrestle with Sgt. Tim Gossett, police said. During the struggle, Gossett fell to the ground and sustained a cut to one of his hands. It was initially believed that Wilson had cut him, but it was later determined that Gossett had fallen onto a box cutter on the ground, according to Dawson.

Wilson was booked into the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center. Gossett was treated for his injury.
