Alleged Drunk Woman Drives Into N.J. Police Cruiser

A Middlesex County woman was arrested Sunday stemming from an incident in which she allegedly drove drunk and struck a Barnegat Township police officer with her car.

Jan. 23--A Middlesex County woman was arrested Sunday stemming from an incident in which she allegedly drove drunk and struck a Barnegat Township police officer with her car.

Barnegat Police said Christine Favro, 27, of Cranbury, was charged wtih third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, third-degree resisting arrest, fourth-degree obstructing the administration of the law, driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit breath samples, reckless driving, failure to yield to emergency vehicle, failure to maintain lane and obstructing passage of motor vehicles.

Police said they responded to the area of Route 72 near Pinewood Estates at 11:20 p.m. for reports of a stopped vehicle facing west in the eastbound lane of travel.

Once they arrived they found Favro in her vehicle, police said. Police instructed her to turn off and exit her vehicle, Favro allegedly ignored the orders.

It was then she allegedly put her car into drive and headed west in the eastbound lane of travel, striking Officer Behrens in the process.

Police pursued Favro and located her at the intersection of Route 72 and Route 532 where her car was stopped.

Again she ignored police commands, police said. She was removed from her vehicle and placed under arrest.

Behrens was transporteed to Southern Ocean Medical Center where he was treated and released, police said.
