Jan. 22--HARTFORD -- A woman carrying a golf club came to the rescue of a man who was being beaten Saturday night by three teens on Broad Street, police said.
The assault happened around 10:36 p.m. near 1003 Broad St.
Police said the man had been walking on the sidewalk when three teens threatened to beat him up if he didn't "get off their block." When the victim didn't leave, one of the teens ran up behind him and punched him in the back of the head, police said. Another teen also allegedly became involved in the fight.
Hearing the commotion, a woman left her home and went to the victim's aid. She was carrying a golf club, police said, and pulled one of the teens off the victim by grabbing the hood of his sweatshirt.
The other two teens snatched the victim's backpack and ran with in behind 1004 Broad St., police said. When police arrived they found the backpack, but it had been emptied. Among the items taken was a loaded .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, police said.
The victim, who declined medical attention, said told officers he would be able to identify the suspects.
