Jan. 18--A man who was in district court in Boyertown on Tuesday on harassment charges had to be restrained by police and shot with a stun gun after he made remarks to the victim in the harassment case, state police said.

Michael G. Kachmar, 48, of the 900 block of North Ironstone Drive, Colebrookdale Township, was charged with aggravated assault after the outburst and scuffle with police about 3:45 p.m. in the courtroom of District Judge Michael G. Hartman at 100 Schaeffer St., troopers said.

According to investigators:

Kachmar was in the courtroom for a harassment case filed by state police as a result of an incident in Washington Township in December.

After the hearing, in which Kachmar pleaded guilty, he made remarks to the victim in the case.

Kachmar was warned by state police Cpl. Douglas Bendetti and Boyertown Officer Kyle Morgan, who was there for an unrelated hearing.

Kachmar refused to stop. Bendetti and Morgan tried to restrain him, and Morgan then shot him with a stun gun.

An ambulance crew from Boyertown assisted at the scene.

Kachmar was awaiting arraignment on the aggravated assault charge late Tuesday in Reading Central Court.
