Two members of the Whitestown Police Department have filed to receive a hearing on the charge of conduct detrimental to the department.

Jan. 18--Two members of the Whitestown Police Department have filed to receive a hearing to appeal their dismissal, Chief Dennis Anderson said.

Anderson charged Sgt. Chris Nelson and Officer Kyle Hartman with conduct detrimental to the department and notified the officers they would be dismissed after a Tuesday, Dec. 13, board of police commissioners meeting.

Anderson said the charges were a result of an internal investigation conducted by Alex Intermill, town attorney. The investigation lasted three weeks.

The report states that "Nelson's misconduct has created conflict in the department and negatively impacted the operations and image of the department."

The report outlines several instances in which Nelson made negative comments about the police department to members of the department and people outside the department.

According to the report, Hartman also made negative comments about the department to members of the department and people outside the department.

The report states that "it appears Hartman has also communicated his negative sentiments about the department to other members of the community outside the department, including members of the Whitestown Fire Department."

The hearing will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, in Whitestown Town Hall, 6320 S. Cozy Lane.
