Jan. 17--Sylvania police are looking for a man who stole a bag containing a gun from inside Southview High School during a girls basketball game on Jan. 9.

According to a police report, a white male between the ages of 20-30, who was wearing a white or gray sweatshirt with black pants, entered the school at 7225 Sylvania Ave. during the basketball game against Clay High School. The suspect removed a bag from the game officials' locker room and exited school property. Darrel Phillips, 45, of Toledo, told police that two credit cards, cash, and a handgun were inside his missing bag.

Sylvania police said two detectives are working on the case, because of the involvement of a firearm. Police said the suspect is not a student. They have surveillance pictures of him from a nearby convenience store, which police obtained two days after the theft.

Mr. Phillips has a permit to carry a concealed firearm, but the case will be sent to the Lucas County prosecutor's office to determine whether he will be charged for having a handgun on school property, said Sylvania police Capt. Rick Schnoor.

Authorities ask those with information to call Sylvania Police at 419-885-8900 or Crime Stoppers at 419-213-1111.
