Jan. 10--A bogus 911 call reporting a hostage situation sent emergency crews scrambling to the scene this afternoon in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.
About 1:30 p.m., police responded to the 911 call in the 8800 block of South Maryland Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
They soon learned it was a fake call because nothing was found and no one was injured, Zala said.
"It was not bona fide,'' the officer said of the incident.
Personnel from the Chicago Fire Department also rushed to the scene, according to Will Knight, a fire department spokesman.
