Jan. 05--A Harmar woman was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital Wednesday morning after she lost control of her car and collided with a car driven by Springdale Borough police Chief Joseph Naviglia, police reported.

The crash occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on Freeport Road near Riddle Run Road.

Township police investigating the cause of the crash reported Renee Horm, 38, hit the unmarked police vehicle driven by Naviglia. Both were alone in their cars.

According to township police, Horm was traveling north on Freeport Road when her vehicle drifted off the right side of the road and hit a guardrail. Police said she lost control of her vehicle, crossed over into the oncoming southbound lane and collided with Naviglia's police car.

A medical helicopter flew Horm to Allegheny General Hospital, township police said. A hospital spokeswoman said she was not listed as a patient there.

Naviglia was taken by Lower Valley ambulance to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison. He was in stable condition and expected to be released, township police said.

No decisions were made on whether any charges are appropriate, pending completion of the investigation, township police said.
