Jan. 06--A 4-foot-4 Allentown woman was charged Thursday night with trying to rob a Bethlehem bank a day earlier by giving a teller a note that claimed "someone strapped a bomb to my leg."

Shervon Antoinette Henderson, 21, of 240 N. Hall St. was arraigned by District Judge Karen C. Devine on charges of robbery and terroristic threats.

Henderson is accused of trying to rob the Bank of America at 2356 Catasauqua Road. Police said she ran out after a teller twice ignored her demand for money.

She appeared calm during the video arraignment, blinking when Devine told her that robbery is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and saying, "No questions," when asked if she had any.

Henderson, who weighs 100 pounds according to the police records, was arrested Thursday in the neighborhood of the bank wearing the same clothes that an unusually clear surveillance photo shows she wore in the bank, police said.

In the police arrest affidavit, Bethlehem Detective Fabian Martinez said Henderson entered the bank at 11:58 a.m. Wednesday and handed a teller a robbery note.

"Someone strapped a bomb to my leg," the note said, according to the affidavit. "I have two minutes. Give me everything you got."

When the teller made no move, Henderson grew impatient, saying, "Hurry, hurry," the affidavit says. But the teller held her ground, and Henderson left the bank, heading south for Pennsylvania Avenue, police said.

The affidavit doesn't say whether she had a real bomb.

Martinez and other detectives looked over the bank surveillance images, which show a small woman wearing a blue and white scarf and a tan coat over a gray hooded sweatshirt, the affidavit says.

A day later, Martinez saw Henderson in those clothes in the area of Catasauqua Road and Pennsylvania Avenue, and took her into custody, according to the affidavit. Martinez and fellow Detective Robert Toronzi identified her from the surveillance photo.

Henderson was sent to Lehigh County Prison under $25,000 bail.
