Jan. 04--JANESVILLE -- A Janesville police officer remained hospitalized Wednesday morning after his leg was broken during an incident early Tuesday evening at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center.

Officer Matthew G. Schieve was injured at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the process of taking Adam Vance, 27, Janesville, into custody in the hospital's Emergency Room, said Sgt. Aaron Ellis.

Vance was arrested on charges of resisting arrest causing substantial harm to a law enforcement officer, which is a felony, Ellis said.

Schieve had surgery, Ellis said, and was listed in good condition Wednesday morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
